05 - How to categorize a numeric variable in cross tables

If the response has been captured as a numeric variable, you have several options. You may show the average, standard deviation, sum total etc.

In other cases, e.g. if you want to use a numeric variable in a table break (Year of birth ==> age categories), you will need to follow these steps:

1. Drag the numeric question to either the rows or columns drop zones.

2. Select the numeric question you want to categorize. Click "Edit"

The question editor appears

3. Click on Actions and select "Create header"

4. Specify the numeric range or value you want, give it a title

Research Analyzer will automatically suggest the next span, with the same values, adjust this to your new range.

Repeat until you have created the categories you desire. Then select close. The created categories may very well overlap each other.

You can adjust your question text so that it better describes the created categories.

Click on "update" to save your settings.
